چکیده

Of all the patients who present with bladder cancer, approximately 75–85% present with disease confined to the mucosa (stage Tis carcinoma in situ [CIS] or stage Ta) or submucosa (stage T1). These groups of bladder cancer are referred to as non–muscleinvasive or superficial bladder cancer, in contrast with muscle-invasive bladder cancer (stage T2, or advanced stage T3–T4). These anatomic classifications are based on the tumour-node-metastases (TNM) classification of 2002, which was approved by the Union International Contre le Cancer (UICC) [1]. At the start of the new millennium, the histologic grading of non–muscle-invasive bladder cancer is still based on a World Health Organization (WHO) classification system from 1973. Although a new classification of noninvasive urothelial tumours was proposed by the WHO and the International Society of Urological Pathology (ISUP) in 1998 and published in 2004, this new classification system is yet to be validated in more clinical trials [2,3]. In contrast with the 1973 WHO classification, in the 2004 WHO classification the disputed intermediate (moderately differentiated) group is eliminated [4].

Significance of random bladder biopsies in non-muscle invasive bladder cancer.

BACKGROUND/AIMS To evaluate retrospectively the clinical outcome of random bladder biopsies in patients with non-muscle invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC) undergoing transurethral resection (TUR). PATIENTS AND METHOD This study included 234 consecutive patients with NMIBC who underwent random biopsies from normal-appearing urothelium of the bladder, including the anterior wall, posterior wall, r...

Is ‘second-look’ (re-staging) transurethral resection of bladder tumours a new standard of care?

Transurethral resection (TUR) is the essential surgical procedure used to diagnose, stage and treat nonmuscle-invasive (NMIBC) bladder tumours. TUR of bladder tumours is a diagnostic, prognostic and therapeutic operation. TUR aims to provide adequate specimen material to determine the histological type and grade of bladder tumours, to determine the presence and depth of tumour invasion, and to ...

AB120. Early radical cystectomy in BCG naive pathological non-muscle invasive bladder cancer: results from a retrospective study with 164 cases

Objective: We investigated the clinical markers for the prediction of residual tumors at repeat transurethral resection (re-TUR) for patients with T1 bladder cancer and evaluated the effect of the residual tumor on the prognosis of the disease. Methods: We reviewed the clinical data of the patients undergoing transurethral resection of bladder tumor (TURBT) from 2008 to 2015 in our department. ...

EXPERIENCE WITH BLADDER NECK INCISION TO RELIEVE BLADDER OUTLET OBSTRUCTION VERSUS TRANSURETHRAL RESECTION OF THE PROSTATE IN SHIRAZ

TUR is cited as the treatment of choice for relief of bladder outflow tract obstruction in the male, but bladder neck incision (BNI) is an acceptable alternative when the gland is smalI.1,2,3 Sixty cases of BNIfTUR have been reviewed (BNI=35, TUR=25) from March, 1986 to April, 1988. BNI was done when the glands were less than 30 gr , and when there was no clinical suspicion of malignancy t...

A New Tool for Distinguishing Muscle Invasive and Non-Muscle Invasive Bladder Cancer: The Initial Application of Flexible Ultrasound Bronchoscope in Bladder Tumor Staging

OBJECTIVES To validate the flexible ultrasound bronchoscope (FUB) as a tool in distinguishing muscle invasive and non-muscle invasive bladder tumors. MATERIALS AND METHODS From June 2010 to April 2012, 62 patients (11 female and 51 male) with 92 bladder urothelial carcinoma were treated in our study. The mean (±SD) patient age was 64.0±12.5 years old (ranged from 22 to 87). Clinical T stage w...
